2010 Competition

The inaugural Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition (BCMCC) was a resounding success.  The following four compositions, in alphabetical order, have been selected out of a strong pool of applications as the winning works:

Concertino for Bassoon, Piano and Three Strings by Jonathan Bartz for Violin, Viola, Cello, Bassoon and Piano
8 Minatures for Chamber Ensemble by Stefan Cwik for Flute, Violin, Bassoon and Piano
American Nights by Arthur Gottschalk for Violin, Bassoon and Piano
What about you? by Lewis Nielson for Violin, Cello and Bassoon

 

The World Premiere Concert took place on 3 June 2011 at 1:30pm in Galvin Playhouse during the International Double Reed Society Conference at Arizona State University.

 

The CD featuring the 2010 BCMCC Winning Works was released on MSR Classics in May 2011.  Purchase a copy through the BCMCC website to support future BCMCCs!

 

The 2010 BCMCC Winning Works were published by TrevCo publishing and can be purchased online.

Additional Performances of the 2010 BCMCC Winning Works include:
  • PRIZM Ensemble in Memphis performed the Bartz, Gottschalk and Cwik June 20-21.
  • BCMCC Chamber Players Eliza Thomason and Paula Brusky have teamed up with excellent musician to perform the Bartz and Gottschalk in Houston on 28 January 2012.
  • BCMCC Chamber Players Michael Williams and Paula Brusky have teamed up with excellent musicians in San Francisco to perform the Cwik on 2 March 2012.
  • BluePrint Series at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music will perform the Cwik on 3 March 2012.
