About
BCMCC was founded in 2009 by Dr Paula Brusky. The intent of this competition is to expand the chamber repertoire available to bassoonists when planning recitals. In addition to expanding chamber repertoire for bassoonists, the BCMCC encourages composers to write for the instrument. The inaugural competition was held in 2010 and was a resounding success. The feedback strongly indicated the need for another BCMCC, so a Board of Directors was formed, the BCMCC was incorporated, and bi-annual competitions have been planned.
Mission Statement
The mission of the BCMCC is to foster and promote the bassoon as a chamber instrument. By holding a bi-annual competition for new compositions featuring the bassoon in a chamber setting the corporation will increase repertoire available for bassoonists and educate the public on the versatility of the instrument. The competition judges will provide each composer that entered feedback on his or her submission to educate composers for the future. The corporation will fund a CD of the winning compositions and host a world premiere concert creating exposure for winning composers and opportunities for public consumption. The BCMCC endeavors to encourage new music for the bassoon, offer opportunities to composers, and increase public interest in the bassoon.
The corporation will also support performing musicians by forming the BCMCC Chamber Players. The Chamber Players will perform the winning compositions for the CD and in public where ever possible. Additionally, the corporation will pursue educational, civic, and charitable activities that support the mission of encouraging new chamber music that features the bassoon.
