Competition Information

The BCMCC is a bi-annual competition, held on “even” years, for new chamber works that feature the bassoon. The inaugural BCMCC was held in 2010, four winning compositions were selected.  Applications for the 2012 BCMCC will be accepted from 1 January 2012 through 30 April 2012.  All applications are done online, apply now!

Frequent Questions:

Why is there an entry fee?  Where does the money go?

The entry fee goes directly back into the BCMCC.  No one takes a paycheck home from the BCMCC.  The fees collected for the 2010 competition were used to purchase copies of the scores for the judges and BCMCC Chamber Players as a “thank you” for donating their time.  So in essence, the winning composers were the only people “paid” (via publishing royalties) from the 2010 BCMCC.

Thanks for providing this opportunity to composers!  How can I support the BCMCC?

The best way to support the BCMCC is by purchasing a CD of the 2010 Winning Works!!!  The future of the BCMCC is entirely dependent on CD sales, donations, and grants.  Please purchase a CD to support the BCMCC.

Why do I have to relinquish the world premiere concert or first recording to the BCMCC?

All of our musicians donated their time.  They do this because they want the credit of a world premiere performance or recording.  The BCMCC believes you deserve control over your own work.  For this reason we set very specific time limits on how long we have exclusivity to create the world premiere concert and performance.  After that, all rights are returned to you!

Why do applicants need to reside in the USA?

The BCMCC is a new organization that is hoping to procure grant funding.  Most grants require a specific geographic focus to be eligible.  Believing our fundraising will go well, we hope to open the 2014 BCMCC internationally.
